No God Beside Him

Follow the Bible’s strongest denials that another deity exists with, beside, before, or after the LORD.

What this path establishes

God does not share deity with another divine being; He knows no God beside Himself.

  1. 1
    None beside HimDeuteronomy 4:35
Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.

The exodus revealed not merely that the LORD was Israel’s preferred God, but that there is none beside Him.

  2. 2
    No God with HimDeuteronomy 32:39
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

God speaks personally and singularly: ‘there is no god with me.’ This rules out a divine companion sharing His status.

  3. 3
    None before or afterIsaiah 43:10
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

No God was formed before the LORD and none will be after Him. His deity is unique across all time.

  4. 4
First, Last, and only GodIsaiah 44:6
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

The LORD combines royal, redemptive, and eternal titles, then denies any God beside Him.

  5. 5
    God knows no otherIsaiah 44:8
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

The all-knowing God answers the question Himself: He knows no other God or Rock.

  6. 6
The LORD and none elseIsaiah 45:5
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

The repeated formula is direct and unqualified: the LORD is God, and there is none else.

  7. 7
    None like HimIsaiah 46:9
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

God’s uniqueness is not merely numerical. No other being shares His divine identity or likeness.

  8. 8
    Apostolic continuity1 Corinthians 8:4
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

Paul carries the prophetic confession into the church: there is no other God but one.
