Creation belongs to God alone
The LORD says He stretched out the heavens by Himself and spread abroad the earth alone. Job and the prophets describe the same solitary Creator. Creation is not outsourced to another divine being.
The Word through which God creates is God’s own effective expression. When John says all things were made through the Word, he stands inside this Old Testament confession.
Salvation identifies the LORD
Isaiah does not say the LORD is one of several saviors. He says there is no Savior beside Him and invites the ends of the earth to look to Him.
The New Testament centers salvation in Jesus’ name and calls Him Savior. That is not permission to add a second Savior beside the LORD. It is revelation of who the LORD has become for us in the incarnation.
Identity is revealed through divine works
Scripture often answers ‘Who is He?’ by asking ‘What does He do?’ The one who creates all things, forgives sins, saves, judges, gives life, and receives worship bears divine identity.
The Apostolic conclusion is not that Jesus competes with God. God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.
Compare exclusive and Christ-centered works
Place the Creator texts together and the Savior texts together. What conclusion preserves every exclusive claim?
- The LORD creates alone.
- All creation comes through the Word that was God.
- The LORD alone saves, and salvation is placed in Jesus’ name.
- Divine work
- An act Scripture treats as belonging uniquely to God, such as creating all things or providing ultimate salvation.
- Identity Christology
- Reading Jesus’ names, works, worship, and authority as inclusion in the identity of the one God.
That conclusion collides with the LORD’s claim to perform those works alone. The texts instead reveal the LORD acting and saving in Christ.
